Savage is an historic town (an unincorporated community and census-designated place) located in Howard County, Maryland, about 12 miles south of Baltimore and 20 miles north of Washington, D.C. It has a population of approximately 7,000.  The city is in a cluster of communities with substantial prostitution problems, including Jessup and Laurel.  Prostitution has been identified by law enforcement as a problem in the town, and residents have complained to police about prostitution in multiple neighborhoods.  In response to such concerns, police have targeted consumer-level demand for commercial sex.  The Savage Police Department has conducted street-level reverse stings, which have resulted in dozens of sex buyer arrests.
