San Leandro is a city in Alameda County, California, with a population of approximately 78,000. It is located on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, between Oakland to the northwest and Hayward to the southeast.  Prostitution and the sex trafficking of minors have been identified in the city and surrounding areas of Alameda County.  In January 2014, an Oakland pimp was convicted of killing a 19-year-old San Leandro woman whom he was exploiting after she said she wished to stop and to return to her family.

In their efforts to reduce prostitution, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office conducts reverse stings and has released the identities of the men arrested to the media.
