Riverside is a city of approximately 24,000 residents, located east of Dayton in Montgomery County, Ohio. Prostitution has been documented in the city and has resulted in complaints to law enforcement.

In April 2014, officers from the Riverside Police Department conducted a web-based reverse sting to intercept sex buyers attempting to purchase sex online. According to reports, “the sting took about a month to coordinate and was done in response to several complaints about prostitution.” The investigation found several parties using Backpage.com for the purpose of prostitution. Within minutes of posting a decoy ad, police received almost two dozen responses. Ultimately six individuals, including at least one sex buyer, were arrested. All of the offenders’ names were released to the public. When asked for comment about the operation, an RPD representative stated:

“In Riverside, we’re not going to put up with that, we’re going to search you out, we’re going to find you and we’re going to eliminate this problem.”
