Port St. Lucie is located on the southeastern Atlantic coast of Florida, and has a population of approximately 218,000.  Prostitution and sex trafficking have been well-documented problems in the city and the region for decades, and community complaints to police are common.  Prostitution related violence, including homicide, has also occurred. Consumer level demand provides the revenue stream for all prostitution and sex trafficking, and has therefore been targeted by local law enforcement agencies as a strategy for prevention and response. The Port St. Lucie Police Department and Lucie County Sheriff’s Office have conducted periodic reverse stings, including web-based operations, and routinely disseminate information about the identities of the men arrested.
