Naperville is a city of roughly 150,000 residents, located in the suburbs of Chicago in DuPage and Will counties, Illinois. Sex trafficking and prostitution activity have been documented in the city over the years, and present a range of related crimes and problems. To address such crimes, police tactics employed locally have included those targeting the buyers of commercial sex. For example, in August 2016 three men who solicited sex from undercover female police officers were arrested in a reverse sting conducted near Ogden Avenue and Naper Boulevard. The names, ages, and addresses of the arrested sex buyers were publicly released. They were each charged with solicitation of a sex act, a Class A misdemeanor. The Naperville Police Department’s Special Operations Group led the operation, with the assistance of officers from Downers Grove. At the time, police representatives said the department set up prostitution and reverse prostitution stings “periodically” during the course of the year.

A local law enforcement respondent to the 2022 National Assessment Survey reported that arrests of sex buyers by means other than sting operations have occurred in Naperville since 2005, and that five had occurred in the prior 12 months.
