Des Plaines is a suburb of Chicago with a population of about 58,000 residents, located in Cook County. Prostitution and child sex trafficking have been known to occur in the city. In an effort to curtail the local commercial sex market, the Des Plaines Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department have targeted consumer-level demand by conducting street-level reverse stings. The first operation known to have occurred in the city was conducted in 1999, but they may have been used before then.
